Wander

Two things I love in this world are blogging and traveling. Every time I traveled, the only way I’d record my trips was by posting stories on Instagram, which I’d often forget about and couldn't easily look back on. That’s why I decided to work on a personal project:

"Wander" is a travel journal designed for users to create profiles, record past adventures, connect with fellow travelers, and dream about future destinations.

Identitfying the problem

Current solutions for documenting travel experiences are fragmented and lack cohesion. Travelers often use multiple apps to document trips, manage itineraries, and share updates, making the process cumbersome.

Social media platforms like Instagram allow users to post pictures but don't provide a way to detail daily activities, itineraries, or memorable meals. Traditional travel journals and blogs are time-consuming and hard to share in real-time, missing the spontaneous and personal moments of a trip. Facebook groups offer inspiration and advice, but don't facilitate meaningful connections and exchanges

Travelers want a way to record their travel journey because they want to share the experience with friends and family.

User Interviews

The interviews were focused on two types of audiences. Adults who like to travel and document their trips. Bloggers/Influencers who want a way to share their journey with their audience. A series of open-ended interviews were conducted, asking users about the why’s and how’s of their travel journaling habits. These were recorded on audio, which really helped when it came to mapping out some of the trends. I created an affinity map on Miro, and was able to identify some main issues and a persona that encapsulated these key insights.

Identifying the Patterns

The themes discovered from the user interviews revealed a common experience of people’s perception and purpose of journaling. The user interviews revealed common themes on people’s perception and purpose of journaling and also habits.

01

Location Tagging Frustration

"I wish there was a way to tag the name of the place on my photo because I don’t keep track of details/names."

02

Managing Travel Memories:

"I find it challenging to manage my travel photos and notes across different platforms; it would be great to have everything in one place."

03

Balancing Tech and Presence:

"I try to use less tech and disconnect as much as possible, especially when I'm traveling, but I still want to capture the moments and memories."

How might we create a unified platform that simplifies the process of documenting and sharing detailed travel experiences?
